Treatment needs assessment

Look beyond required hours to understand the services and level of care that may be appropriate.

Before enrollment: Confirm service availability, professional qualifications, fees, and acceptance by your referring authority with Amazing Grace DUI. This guide is not a clinical assessment or legal advice.

Understand the full picture

A treatment-needs assessment is a clinical review that precedes treatment and informs placement and planning. Illinois describes a biopsychosocial assessment that considers immediate needs, diagnosis, risk, and the appropriate level of care.

Topics to prepare

The assessment is a conversation with qualified staff, not an online self-test. Bring information you can discuss accurately and ask how records should be shared.

  • Alcohol and other drug history, including prior services.
  • Current medications and relevant physical-health concerns.
  • Mental-health history and current stressors.
  • Safety, withdrawal-related concerns, and immediate support needs.
  • Living situation, relationships, work, and other supports or barriers.
  • Court orders, employer referrals, or other written requirements.

Different from a DUI evaluation

A DUI evaluation addresses a defined reporting purpose and risk recommendation. A treatment assessment focuses on the clinical needs and placement required to plan care. Ask which service your referral requests, and whether both are needed.

After the assessment

Ask for an explanation of the findings, recommended next steps, available options, and any referral. Confirm provider qualifications and service availability with Amazing Grace DUI before scheduling.
